Laiken and I had some fun this weekend going through some of the things packed away in my cedar chest. She particularly liked modeling my old twirling competition costumes. When I was in 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grades, my activity of choice was baton twirling. I don't even know if anyone still teaches baton or takes baton lessons, but when I was little, it was a pretty big deal. There were competitions all over the place and my mom handmade all of these elaborate costumes for me to wear. She added each bead and rhinestone by hand and that was before the invention of the Bedazzler, so completing a costume was extremely time-consuming. Looking back, I can't believe that my mom was the same age that I am now when she was making those costumes. I couldn't even begin to construct something like that. I think it had probably been at least 10 years since I had even looked at those costumes and it was so strange to realize that they now fit my daughter. It was a very surreal experience.
